Grey Round Patterns

The digital literacy program is designed to get you up to speed with today's digital world.

This mobile program consists of 6 different digital literacy topics (outlined below) covered in 10 weeks by attending class once a week for 3 hours.

 

Teachers travel to you with their own equipment and give personalized attention through small classes on Windows. From keyboarding to internet security, learn what you need to know to feel confident using a computer in your day-do-day life. 

Computer Basics

Computing is an important part of everyday life in the 21st century. From music and photos to banking and communication, computers have changed the way we work and live. This module introduces the fundamentals of computing, explains the components of a computer and how to use them, and explores operating system basics.

​The Internet and the World Wide Web

The Internet can connect an individual to people, information, and resources around the world. This module shows how to connect to the Internet, browse webpages, navigate websites, and use search engines. The module also provides guidelines for determining whether the resources you find are reliable.

​Email

The development of the Internet has caused communication to change dramatically. From keeping in touch with family to sending job applications and resumes, this course explains the benefits of and demonstrates how to create and use an email account.

Productivity Programs

There are hundreds of software applications available today. This module explores the most common productivity software applications used in business, education, and at home. It teaches how to select the right software for various projects, and helps the learner become familiar with the fundamentals of word processing (like Microsoft Word and Google Docs), spreadsheet (like Excel and Google Sheets), and presentation (like PowerPoint and Google Slides) software.

Computer Security and Privacy

It's easy to use a computer safely and responsibly if you know what to look for. This module will help you gain confidence in computing by explaining the risks and threats to computer security and privacy so that you can understand and prevent such risks. The module also explains ethical and legal concerns with information exchange.

​Digital Lifestyles

From cell phones to MP3 players to digital cameras, computers have changed our everyday lives. This module introduces new digital technologies, including digital devices such as tablets, cell phones, digital audio, digital video, and digital photography. It explores how these and other computing technologies are creating new career opportunities and shaping the world we live in.
