CAEC Testing

The GED® is no longer available in Canada effective May 3, 2024. The Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC) provides a high-quality, Canadian education credential to replace the GED®.


There is no effect on the validity of completed GED® credentials. The GED® will continue to be recognized as a valid credential.

Writing Frequency

  • Candidates may write any one subject test only once per calendar month, and up to a maximum of 3 times per calendar year.

  • Candidates who do not receive a passing score on a CAEC subject test can rewrite it in alignment with the policy above.

  • Rewriting the same subject test in which a passing standard has been achieved is prohibited

Universal Supports

Universal supports are features and tools that are embedded in the digital assessment platform and that are available to all candidates on all CAEC tests.

Take the tests

Sign up to write the CAEC assessments on your Vretta account. You must write tests in-person at a testing centre on the date and time you selected.

Bring your ID. You must bring 2 forms of valid identification at the time of testing. The primary form of ID must be government-issued and not expired. It must also include the candidate’s name, date of birth, photo, and signature.

NOTE: Secondary valid forms of ID must include the candidate's name and be not expired.

Understanding Scores:

Passing scores -

You need 55% to meet the minimum standard and officially pass a CAEC test.

80-100% – Exceeds minimum standard (ES)
55-79% – Meets minimum standard (MS)
40-54% – Approaching minimum standard (AS)
0-39% – Does not meet minimum standard (DMS)
If you receive a result of AS or DMS, you must retake the test because you have not met the minimum standard.

You can view your scores through your profile on the CAEC digital platform within:

Reading, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies: approximately 2 business days
Writing: approximately 20 business days
