The Tara Gray Continuing Education Bursary

The Tara Gray Continuing Education Bursary is inspired by an exceptional individual who gave so much of her time to CVALA board members, teachers, and learners, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the pleasure of working with her and learning from her. Tara served as the Executive Director of Central Valley Adult Learning Association from its inception in 2008 until 2022. She was the glue that held everything together in those early years of operation. Her dedication to improving the educational experience of adult learners working toward their GED remains a core influence on the growth and development of CVALA today. Always going above and beyond, Tara often donated many hours above her scheduled work time to ensure the smooth running of the organization. Even since leaving her position with CVALA, she remains committed to adult education and is focused on the success of the learners. Her passion for community service and helping others is her guiding light. This bursary honors Tara’s years of devotion to CVALA and adult education.

The Tara Gray Continuing Education Bursary is an opportunity for adult learners who have completed CVALA’s GED program and have been accepted into a post-secondary program. When going back to school, adult learners may have a hard time managing family responsibilities, travel, and other costs. This year, one bursary of $250 will be awarded to help with these expenses.

To qualify, you must be a resident of NB over the age of 18 and:

  • Completed CVALA’s GED program within the last 12 months

  • Attending or accepted into a post-secondary program to begin within 6 months of receiving bursary funds

  • Completed and submitted the bursary application and essay

  • Proof of acceptance into a post-secondary program

Acceptance to a post-secondary institute must be verified by attaching either a letter of acceptance or a conditional letter of acceptance. The 200-250 word essay should include things such as why you returned to school, educational plans, career goals, community service and any extraordinary circumstances that may apply specifically to you.

The deadline to apply for the Tara Gray Continuing Education Bursary is May 12th. The successful candidate will be notified and will receive their reward at CVALA’s graduation ceremony in June.

Selection of the winning applicant by the bursary committee will be based on completion of the application form and essay and verified acceptance to a post-secondary institution and by positive discussions with bursary committee members and the applicant’s GED teacher.
